Join us for an exhilarating cook-off fundraiser, ‘Burnt Offerings,’ where culinary prowess meets a charitable cause! This sizzling event aims to support our youth mission trip and summer choir trip by showcasing your talents. Maybe you've seen a reference to this special event in recent publications of our newsletter or a slide pop up on the screen, and you might be wondering what in the world is 'Burnt Offerings.' Well, it involves two things Methodists hold near and dear to their heart - food and fellowship! The youth will be hosting this event in hopes of helping offset costs for their summer trips.
The first of these trips is a five-day mission trip with UM Army to Dennison, TX. There, the youth will respond to the needs of community members and have the opportunity to experience Christian growth through service to others. Participants combine their strengths and resources to meet home repair and maintenance needs for low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners who are physically or financially unable to make needed repairs themselves.
On the second trip, our 4th-12th grade choir, the Celebration Singers, will take a trip to Galveston Island. Zakk has planned out a great weekend for all of the kids who have been participating in the choir program all semester. We'll drive down to Galveston and sing at two different nursing homes and join in with an inner generational choir at Moody United Methodist Church, all while taking the time to enjoy some fun in the sun.
There are three ways you can participate in our Burnt Offerings fundraiser:
First, enter to compete!
One entry is $25 and includes a tasting ticket to vote for your favorite dishes. Bring your best "signature" dish. If you're up for the challenge, we hope you'll register below and go up against Pastor Dave himself and whatever he decides to put on the smoker. There will be a "Sweet" category and a "Savory" category, with a winner and runner-up for each category.
Second, come eat!
If you aren't up for cooking, purchase a ticket to sample food and vote for your favorite! Each ticket gets you 10 votes. Don't worry—all competitive dishes will be in "sample" form, so you can try them all!
Third, invite your friends and neighbors!
This event will be held in the gym, and we're hoping to fill it up! Tickets may be purchased at the church leading up to the event or at the door the day of. $10 will get you access to taste and vote!
